A two-vehicle crash has caused road closures to be put in place, and a woman to be hospitalised near Hatfield.

The incident took place prior to 7.58am this morning (Monday, December 18), on the A1000 Great North Road.

At that time, a blue Ford and a black Mazda collided near the Westfield junction.

Hertfordshire police and the East of England Ambulance Service attended the scene, where a woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

According to Hertfordshire County Council, delays are being experienced in both directions between Welham Green and Bell Bar.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called at 7.58am today (Monday 18 December) following reports of a road traffic collision on the A1000 Great North Road, Hatfield, near to the Westfield junction.

"Officers are in attendance, alongside colleagues from the ambulance service.
