Christmas is just around the corner – and so is the Isabel Hospice Christmas tree recycling service!

In exchange for a suggested donation, Isabel Hospice will collect and recycle your real Christmas trees between January 5 and January 10, 2024.

Katy O’Sullivan, Isabel’s head of fundraising, said: “We’re here to help make your Christmas clear-up as hassle-free as possible, leaving you to focus on the festive fun.

So, when you’ve finished decking the halls and it’s time to pack away the tinsel and baubles for another year, we will pick up your tree from your door and recycle it in an environmentally friendly way.”

The service will be available in the following postcode areas:

Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield

  • AL6 0/9, AL7 1/2/3/4, AL8 6/7, AL9 5/6/7, ALI0 0/8/9

Katy added: “This is the fourth year we have organised our tree-cycling service, and it continues to grow in popularity each year.

We expect to be even busier this year, so we are encouraging people to book their collection slot online as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

“Our incredible volunteers offered their help last year by both leafleting houses and helping us to collect trees in an awe-inspiring display of community spirit.

"We’re hoping our supporters will work their magic for us by volunteering to lend a hand again this time round so if you can help, even for just a couple of hours, please do get in touch as we would love to hear from you.”

About Isabel Hospice

Isabel Hospice has been providing free palliative care to its patients and their families since 1982.

It provides support and care to people in eastern Hertfordshire who are affected by life-limiting illnesses through its Hospice at Home, In-Patient Unit, Community Team, Living Well with Isabel programme, and its Family and Bereavement support service.

Isabel’s clinical teams work closely with other healthcare providers in the area, including care homes, hospitals and GP surgeries, improving access to services and sharing knowledge and expertise.

Isabel’s services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning £7 million must be raised each year to guarantee the future of care for eastern Hertfordshire.

In the years 2021-2022, Welwyn Garden City-based Isabel Hospice supported 1,435 patients – these services included 257 IPU admissions, 1,233 Clinical Nurse Specialist Patient consultations, 3,630 Hospice at Home contacts, 343 Living Well Patients, and 3,163 Family Support Counselling sessions.
