The Vienna Festival Ballet returns to the Alban Arena in St Albans with Sleeping Beauty

THE Vienna Festival Ballet tiptoes into St Albans again next week with its enchanting production of Sleeping Beauty.

The acclaimed company returns to the Alban Arena with Sleeping Beauty on Saturday at 2.30pm.

A classic fairytale set to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, it features stunning choreography and beautiful costumes, combined to portray the struggle between good and evil.

The wicked fairy Carabosse lays a curse on Princess Aurora, proclaiming that she will one day pierce her finger – and die.

But the Lilac Fairy intervenes, and on the fateful day the princess and the entire palace instead fall into a deep sleep.

A century later, when Prince Florimund awakens the princess with a kiss, the palace awakes and a parade of fairy-tale characters attends the royal wedding.

Under the guidance of founder Peter Mallek, who has made it his mission to bring the classics to as wide an audience as possible, spending eight months of the year on the road, there is sure to be no sleeping in the aisles.

Tickets cost £22.50, concessions £17.50 and under-16s £14.
