An exciting Big Band Swing concert celebrating the era of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe can be seen in St Albans.
Sinatra, Sequins & Swing (The Capitol Years Live!) comes to The Alban Arena on Wednesday, October 12 as part of its 2016 concert tour.
The UK’s only touring Sinatra show approved by the president of the Sinatra Music Society, it sees one of the world’s best Big Band jazz orchestras team up with two of the country’s most talented vintage-style vocalists to present a spectacular 1950s swing concert.
The show focuses on Sinatra’s golden years of 1953-61 at Capitol Records, celebrating the era’s Hollywood glamour and well-loved songs, most notably those arranged by superstar arrangers Nelson Riddle and Billy May.
It features classics like Chicago, I’ve Got the World on a String, Come Fly With Me, Night & Day, Witchcraft, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, The Tender Trap and You Make Me Feel So Young.
Sinatra, Sequins & Swing recreates famous scenes from Ol’ Blue Eyes’ TV and film appearances during that time, such as the One For My Baby bar scene, the Lady Is A Tramp nightclub scene from film Pal Joey, and You’re Sensational from film High Society with Grace Kelly.
Audience members will also be treated to Marilyn Monroe’s Diamonds Are A Girls’ Best Friend moment from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, timeless classics by Sinatra’s legendary ‘Capitol’ luminaries Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Bobby Darin, and plenty of fun in between.
The show’s frontman/lead vocalist is new Sinatra star Kevin Fitzsimmons, while retro pin-up/vocalist Kitty La Roar appears at Marilyn Monroe.
Kevin performs his own shows at the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, enjoys jazz festival appearances with his own band, and has recreated the voices of both Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin for TV and radio commercials in the UK and Europe – including Sinatra’s voice for a TV ad with Hollywood movie star Naomi Watts.
With her own Hollywood screen siren charisma, and described as “the voice of an angel with the presence and charisma of something far more devilish’”, chanteuse Kitty La Roar was the star attraction at Graham Norton’s 40th birthday.
World renowned band leader and multi-instrumentalist Pete Long, of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and Jools Holland’s Rhythmn and Blues Orchestra fame, conducts and performs with some of the best musicians in the business.
Pete has previously worked with the likes of Tom Jones, Norah Jones, Lulu, Lionel Richie, Texas and Sir Paul McCartney to name but a few.
He also played the famous oboe part on Welsh rock band Stereophonics’ single Handbags and Gladrags.
The Sinatra, Sequins & Swing (The Capitol Years Live!) concert in St Albans starts at 7.30pm.
• Tickets cost £24, £22.50, and £12 for under-25s/students.
