Open day at Welwyn Garden City theatre

THEATRE-lovers are being offered the chance to go behind the scenes at a popular Welwyn Garden City venue this weekend.
Did you know the interior of the Barn Theatre was used for scenes from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie Hot Fuzz?
Or that a handful of Barn Theatre members contributed their dancing and singing skills to the film version of Romeo and Juliet?
The Barn Theatre, in Handside Lane, is holding an open day on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
Visitors will be able to take a tour of the Barn, look at a display of tiny models of full-scale stage sets, while Festival Costumes will be showing off their extensive range of costumes and props, all of which are available for hire.
The fun day is open to everyone, as marketing director Lynette Reeves explained.
She said: “Existing members can catch up with other members after the summer break; regular Barn audience members can have a peek backstage and explore the rabbits warren of corridors and rooms housed within this 19th-century building and people who read about the Barn in local newspapers, online or hear us on the radio can come along to see what all the fuss is about.”
If you fancy having a nosy around the theatre, there will be a ploughman’s lunch and cakes available, while the bar will also be open.
