A stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's King Arthur can be seen in Hertford this week.
Everyone loves the story of King Arthur, the Round Table and the mystery that surrounds the legend.
The award-winning Story Pocket Theatre presents Michael Morpurgo’s epic tale of magic and heroism on Wednesday, October 5 at the Hertford Theatre.
Spectacular sword fights, a classic battle between good and evil, a moving love story and enthralling storytelling come together to create a memorable family show.
The well-loved stories of King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, the Lady of the Lake and the sword Excalibur come to life in this exciting adaptation of Morpurgo’s novel.
When a boy becomes stranded at sea, he is rescued by a mysterious old man who claims to be none other than the great King Arthur Pendragon.
Through the old king’s magical storytelling, the boy and the audience are transported back to the heady days of Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin and his faithful hound, Bercelet, and the sword in the stone.
Best known as Regis Lucis Caelum in movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Jon Campling will star as Merlin and King Arthur.
He is joined on stage by Thomas Gilbey, most recently seen as the head of the legendary Joey puppet in War Horse, as young Arthur and Sarine Sofair (Game of Thrones) as Guinevere and the Lady of the Lake. Nigel Munson, Otis Waby, Mackenzie Scott and Luke Pitman complete the cast.
The show comes to Hertford after a hugely successful premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won rave reviews from critics and audiences.
This family production is the first of Michael Morpurgo’s novels to be adapted by Story Pocket Theatre and is a fast-moving show of adventure, physical theatre, puppetry and outstanding storytelling.
