Jeeves and Wooster in ‘Perfect Nonsense’ opens at the theatre in Handside Lane on Friday, October 7 and runs until Saturday, October 15.

While the Barn Theatre has been dark over the summer, the auditorium has been refurbished and the sound of hammering has competed with shrieks of laughter from rehearsals going on in the Studio.

Now summer’s over, the refurbishment’s complete and the first play of the 2016-17 season is ready to go up in WGC.

Jeeves and Wooster in ‘Perfect Nonsense’, directed by multi-award-winning Hannah Sayer, is the first show of the new season and the first to be performed in the splendid new auditorium.

Hannah has been a fan of Jeeves and Wooster ever since she saw the Fry and Laurie TV series and says that this one, the cow creamer episode, was her favourite.

Based on the 1938 P G Wodehouse novel The Code of the Woosters, and written by Wodehouse fans Robert and David Goodale, the show premiered at the Richmond Theatre in 2013 to four and five star reviews and went on to win the 2014 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

Director Hannah said: “I have been asked if I feel under pressure – the first show of the season, in the new auditorium, with two award-winning productions to live up to.

“Well no. I’m thrilled to have won the awards, of course, but I’m not setting myself up to win awards, I’m setting myself up to produce a good show that the cast and audience will enjoy and this one will be a cracker.

“It’s perfect family entertainment and you’ll come out giggling at the absurdity of it all.”

Barn chairman Nigel Rive said: “We’re delighted to announce Jeeves and Wooster in ‘Perfect Nonsense’ to kick off the new season in our newly refurbished auditorium.

“All the old seats have gone, to be replaced with brand new ones providing more comfort and much more leg room.

“The Barn is looking terrific and we couldn’t ask for a better start to the new season with a fabulous comedy and comfy seats. Come and try them.”
