Star Trek (12A)

THE moment 'Trekkies' the world over have been waiting for has finally arrived.

More than 40 years since the sci-fi series first appeared on our television screens, Lost creator JJ Abrams brings us the 11th feature film to be made under the Star Trek banner.

Featuring the main characters of the original series - although obviously played by an all-new cast - this focuses on the story of how James T Kirk (Chris Pine) came to take his place aboard the USS Enterprise.

First meeting him brawling in a bar, he is approached by a stranger, who turns out to be President of the Starfleet Academy.

He wants Kirk to follow in the footsteps of his father, who was a heroic starship captain.

Joining the Academy, Kirk meets his future crew, including Spock (Zachary Quinto, aka Sylar from Heroes), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Sulu (John Cho) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana).

And with the United Federation of Planets under attack from the marauding Romulan Nero (Eric Bana), it's time for Kirk and the crew to assume battle stations aboard the Starship Enterprise and boldly go where no one has gone before.

Cast: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban

Director: J.J. Abrams

Running time: 2 hour, 7 mins

Released: May 8, 2009
