EastEnders actor Jake Wood was voted off Strictly Come Dancing tonight (Sunday) after finding himself in the dreaded dance-off for the first time.

The snake-hipped Tewin-based star and professional dance partner Janette Manrara finished bottom of the leaderboard in Saturday’s live semi-final.

And Jake, who plays Max Branning in the BBC One soap, and Janette were in the bottom two couples, with Mark Wright and professional Karen Hauer, after the viewers’ votes had been added to the judges’ scores.

After taking to the ballroom once more in tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing Results Show, the judges decided to keep Mark Wright in the competition, meaning Jake misses next weekend’s final showdown.

On an emotional evening, head judge Len Goodman had the casting vote and saved Mark Wright.

After hanging up his dancing shoes, Jake – @mrjakedwood – tweeted: “To @JManrara, the best dancer ever to walk this earth, a million thank yous. Cheers #strictly it’s been a blast”

Despite failing to win over the judges, Jake impressed The Apprentice’s Alan Sugar.

While It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball tweeted: “Love you @mrjakedwood @JManrara Outstanding dancers been a joy to watch x @bbcstrictly”

Footballer turned TV presenter Darren Eadie also tweeted: “More shocking than an #EastEnders story line........ @mrjakedwood OUT of #strictly he was magnif!”

Celebrities still in contention for the Strictly Glitterball are TV presenter Caroline Flack with Pasha Kovalev, The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge and Kevin Clifton, Blue star Simon Webbe with Kristina Rihanoff, and former TOWIE Mark Wright and Karen Hauer.

But Jake has waved goodbye to the competition with the final just one step away.

On Saturday, Jake and Janette scored 30 out of 40 for the opening dance of the night, a Cha Cha to Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine Band.

They performed the routine again in the dance-off tonight.

Their second routine on Saturday night, a Viennese Waltz to When a Man Loves a Woman, scored 31, giving them an overall mark of 61 out of 80, leaving them bottom of the leaderboard and facing the Strictly exit door.

Caroline and Pasha had topped the leaderboard, scoring a maximum 40 for their hot salsa.

After reaching the final, Caroline (@carolineflack1) tweeted: “Wow wow wow. I feel so lucky. With sounding like a complete soppy twit... Thank you so much if you voted...it’s changed my life xxxx”
