Strictly Come Dancing 2014 semi-final: Jake Wood to face the dance-off?
PUBLISHED: 12:26 14 December 2014 | UPDATED: 19:59 14 December 2014
EastEnders favourite Jake Wood is at risk of missing the Strictly Come Dancing 2014 final after finishing bottom of the judges’ leaderboard in Saturday’s live semi-final.
The snake-hipped star from Tewin, Hertfordshire, and professional dance partner Janette Manrara need the public’s votes to keep them in the competition after failing to impress the judges with either of their routines last night.
They scored 30 out of 40 for the opening dance of the night, a Cha Cha to Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine Band.
With the five remaining couples all showing signs of nerves, that was the joint lowest score of the night, along with Simon Webbe and Kristina’s samba.
Jake was even criticised for too much hip action and judge Craig Revel Horwood felt it was “a bit drunken and unruly”.
Jake and Janette’s second routine, a Viennese Waltz to When a Man Loves a Woman, scored 31, giving them an overall mark of 61, leaving them bottom of the leaderboard after two dances.
As a result, the pair will need the public to have voted for them before the lines closed.
And even then it might not be enough to prevent them missing out on a final appearance, in which Jake is set to reprise his stunning salsa routine.
Former Towie star Mark Wright and Karen Hauer were the second worst couple last night, after scoring 33 for both their routines.
But having performed the two worst dances of the night, Jake and Janette will need to up their game to reach the final, should they end up in the dance-off for the first time.
Before Saturday’s show, Jake (@mrjakedwood) tweeted his 261,000 Twitter followers, asking them for their support.
He tweeted: “Need all your votes tonight, no one is safe in this competition. Me and @JManrara will be giving it 100% as per. Thank you in advance.”
After finishing bottom with the judges, he tweeted: “Tough night at the office! Me & @JManrara appreciate all your votes SO much, hope & pray we’re in the final.”
At the other end of the leaderboard, Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev once again impressed the judges with two fabulous routines.
They scored 75 out of a possible 80, including a maximum 40 for their “super-charged” and “spicy hot” salsa, with even Craig awarding them a 10.
Len Goodman said: “I’ll see you next week. If you’re not in the final, the world’s gone mad!”
Their first dance – a foxtrot to Josef Salvat’s version of Diamonds – scored 35.
Frankie Bridge and Kevin Clifton totalled 72 last night, their second dance being awarded 38, and Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff totalled 68.
Viewers will find out who is in the dance-off – and who will miss next week’s grand final – in tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing Results Show on BBC One at 7.20pm.
