EastEnders favourite Jake Wood is through to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing, after singer Pixie Lott became the latest celebrity to leave the BBC One competition after losing in the dance-off.

The snake-hipped Jake and professional partner Janette Manrara avoided the dance-off in the Strictly Results Show.

They had scored 38 out of 40 for their circus-themed Charleston to ‘Entry of the Gladiators’ on Saturday night’s live show, gaining two tens in the process.

Despite finishing sixth, and last, in the following Waltz-a-Thon, the public voted to keep Jake and Janette in the competition – making them one of the five couples through to the penultimate week of the celebrity contest.

Pixie Lott and Trent Whiddon, who received top marks in the Waltz-a-Thon, surprisingly exited the competition tonight (Sunday).

Although bottom of the judges’ leaderboard after the first routines, their waltz – and the six points that came with it – lifted them one point above Jake, Simon Webbe and Frankie Bridge.

However, they still finished in the bottom two pairs after the viewers’ votes were added to the judges’ scores, and the Mama Do singer faced Blue star Webbe in the dance-off.

After dancing for survival, it came down to Len Goodman and he sent Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff through to the last five and next Saturday’s live semi-final, and Pixie and Trent took to the floor for their last dance on the show.

Taking to Twitter, Jake, who plays Max Branning in EastEnders, tweeted: “Through to the semi-finals! Unbelievable. Thank you from me and @JManrara to everyone who voted for us, you guys rock”
