EastEnders favourite Jake Wood scored two tens after shaking his hips to an entertaining samba on Strictly Come Dancing tonight (Saturday).

The snake-hipped star from Tewin, Hertfordshire, and professional dance partner Janette Manrara scored 38 out of 40 for their samba to the Macarena and had the crowd on their feet. You can watch the dance above.

Their total included a couple of tens from the judges and was the joint highest score of the night alongside Frankie Bridge and Kevin Clifton’s Viennese Waltz.

As well as shaking his Latin hips, Jake’s rhythmic bum stunned the judges.

Bruno Tonioli called the routine “out there, mental fun”, while Craig Revel Horwood said Jake’s bottom “went off like a jackhammer”.

Darcey Bussell and Len Goodman gave the dance maximum 10s, while Craig and Bruno gave it nines.

After the show, Janette Manrara (@JManrara) tweeted: “Wow!!!! We got two 10s!!! Ahhhh!!! So so proud of @mrjakedwood tonight! We still need you guys to stay in! Please vote! #HisNameIsSnakeHips”

As well as winning over the judging panel, Jake’s hip action was also a hit on social media.

Former England footballer and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) tweeted: “Sensational from @mrjakedwood . That fella can move #Strictly”

Former Strictly professional Camilla Dallerup also praised Jake, who plays Max Branning in the BBC One soap.

From her Twitter account @CamillaDallerup she tweeted: “Those hips don’t lie Jake# #scd I’m speechless what an entertaining number Complete commitment to every love. For the hips alone 9”

James Jordan, another former SCD pro, also praised Jake’s “awkwardly brilliant” performance.

Continuing his weekly Strictly critique on Twitter, James (@The_JamesJordan) tweeted: “Jake Most entertaining dance of the night.

“Now that’s exactly what some of the trained dancers don’t have.

“He sells it massively.”

He later added: “Not the best dancer but what an entertainer!

“9!!!!!! Even a 10 just for entertainment”

Hatfield-based charity Willow, which was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson and wife Megs, also tweeted a message of support for Jake.

The charity (@Willow_Fdn) posted: “@mrjakedwood HIPS! You are as good on the dance floor as you are on #Starsoncanvas. LOVED IT.”

James Jordan’s wife Ola and wildlife presenter Steve Backshall finished bottom of the leaderboard with 23 points and will need the public vote to keep them out of the dance-off in Sunday’s Strictly results show.
