AN animal-loving volunteer took part in a documentary on charity workers - only to find out she was the star of the show.
Retired Carole Pavey had been under the impression that the ITN camera crew filming at her house were making a programme about volunteers, and were interviewing her and husband Terry about their work at RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre.
But she got a surprise when she and the film crew entered the Packhorse Lane centre, only to be confronted by TV presenter Jenni Falconer and a bunch of flowers with her name on.
Carole had been an unwitting participant in Jenni Falconer’s Secret Santa, a festive programme for Living TV, celebrating the work of charitable members of the public by rewarding them with special Christmas gifts.
Carole, who runs Southridge’s cafe at the weekends, was chosen as one of five volunteers across the country to receive a special prize from Jenni – as well as the flowers, she was treated to a VIP visit to London Zoo and a meal for two at top London vegetarian restaurant Vanilla Black.
“I had no idea, I thought it was all to do with Southridge and the volunteers,” said Carole, 64, who had been nominated by centre manager Anna White.
“When Jenni Falconer popped up I thought I’d won the lottery!
“I kept asking Terry why he was letting me do all the talking when he’s the one in charge of PR. I did say I’d kill him on air, but I haven’t yet!”
Jenni Falconer’s Secret Santa is on Living TV tomorrow (Thursday) December 23, at 8pm.
