Welwyn Garden City’s UK Eurovision hopeful will appear on The Graham Norton Show on BBC One this week.
WGC musician Alex Larke and Electro Velvet partner Bianca Nicholas will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna later this month with song ‘Still In Love With You’.
And as part of Electro Velvet’s promotional duties, they are due to perform on The Graham Norton Show on BBC One on Friday night.
They will be appearing on the sofa alongside fellow guests comedian Miranda Hart and actor and writer Rupert Everett.
Since being confirmed as the UK’s entry for Austria, Alex and Bianca have visited Riga in Latvia, Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Moscow in Russia for Eurovision events to drum up support for their song.
And the pair, along with Alex’s Rolling Clones band mate Aaron Clarke (guitar), Gary Hawkins (drums), Don Gould (piano) and Graham Preskett (fiddle), also performed a special version of the UK’s Eurovision track live on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show yesterday (Saturday) morning.
The 60th Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday, May 23 in Vienna, Austria.
It will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC One HD, with commentary by Graham Norton, and live on BBC Radio 2 with commentary from Ken Bruce.
A total of 40 countries will compete in this year’s contest, which includes two semi-finals that will be screened on BBC Three and the grand final, which will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC Radio 2.
Past Eurovision winners from the UK
1967: Sandie Shaw – Puppet On A String.
1969: Lulu – Boom Bang A Bang.
1976: Brotherhood of Man – Save Your Kisses For Me.
1981: Bucks Fizz – Making Your Mind Up.
1997: Katrina & The Waves – Love Shine a Light.
As one of the ‘Big Five’ countries – the others being Spain, Germany, France and Italy – the United Kingdom does not have to perform at the semi-final stage of the competition and will gain automatic access to the Saturday grand finale.
Austria, as the incumbent champion thanks to drag act Conchita Wurst’s victory last year, and Australia, who have been invited to perform as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations, will also not perform at the semi-final stage.
* The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One on Friday, May 8 at 10.40pm.
