The Dark Knight (12A)

Oscar success: Two awards, including best supporting actor for Heath Ledger

IT'S the most anticipated movie of the summer - although, sadly, not for the right reasons.

For Batman's latest big screen adventure is the last completed film of the late Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental drugs overdose in January.

All the headlines have been about Ledger's starring turn as The Joker, and don't be surprised if current talk about a posthumous Oscar is honoured by the Academy.

Set around a year after Batman Begins, The Joker, a rising criminal mastermind, unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City.

It's up to Bruce Wayne - well, Batman (played again by Christian Bale) - lieutenant James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and new district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) to stop him.

And as Batman will find out about this new enemy, this time it's deeply personal.
