The BBC confirmed last night (Saturday) that Electro Velvet, a musical duo consisting of Alex Larke and Bianca Nicholas, will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

They will perform the song Still In Love With You in Austria. You can watch the track’s video above.

The 60th Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday, May 23 in Vienna, and will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC One HD, with commentary by Graham Norton, and live on BBC Radio 2 with commentary from Ken Bruce.

WGC’s Alex, who also performs as Mick Jagger in The Rolling Stones tribute band The Rollin’ Clones, and 26-year-old Kent singer Bianca will be hoping to emulate bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst, who won the competition last year with Rise Like a Phoenix.

After being unveiled as this year’s British hopeful in the annual competition, Alex tweeted: “Ecstatic to be representing the UK at the 60th @Eurovision, with @BiancaNicholas, as Electro Velvet. We’re working hard to do the UK proud!”

A total of 40 countries will compete in this year’s contest, which includes two semi-finals that will be shown on BBC Three and the grand final, which will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC Radio 2.

As one of the ‘Big Five’ countries – UK, Spain, Germany, France, Italy – the United Kingdom does not have to perform at the semi-final stage of the competition and will gain automatic access to the Saturday grand finale.

Austria, as the incumbent champions, and Australia, who have been invited to perform as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations, will also not perform at the semi-final stage.

BBC chiefs are delighted at the UK’s 2015 entrant.

Guy Freeman, editor of special events, said: “I am thrilled that Alex and Bianca will be representing the UK in this year’s competition.

“Our song for this special anniversary year has an up-tempo beat and an irresistibly catchy hook that is sure to get the party started in Vienna.”

The BBC’s UK controller of entertainment production, Katie Taylor, added: “I am certain Electro Velvet will dazzle in Vienna for Eurovision’s Diamond Anniversary and do the UK proud.”
