One of the most famous recordings in British jazz history will be celebrated in Welwyn Garden City this weekend.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Stan Tracey’s acclaimed Under Milk Wood.
The record has been reissued continually since its release in 1965.
And a performance of Under Milk Wood will take place at Herts Jazz Club, in WGC, on Sunday.
The haunting, evocative sound of saxophonist Bobby Wellins played an essential role in the original recording.
He will be joined in Screen 2 of the Hawthorne Theatre/Garden City Cinema complex at Campus West by two members of Stan’s groups for the last 35 years.
Andrew Cleyndert will play bass and Stan’s son, Clark Tracey, will be on drums.
Stan’s personal choice of pianist, Steve Melling, will also perform as part of the group.
The narrator of Dylan Thomas’ seminal work is Stan’s grandson Ben Tracey, Stan’s preferred voice.
Advance tickets cost £3 students, £10 members, £13 concessions and £14 full.
Walk-ups are £5 students, £12 members, £15 concessions and £16 full. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
