A concert in memory of one of Britain's best loved jazz musicians can be heard in Welwyn Garden City.
Tribute to Tommy Whittle is tonight’s (Sunday’s) offering at Herts Jazz Club.
Tommy, who died in 2013, achieved fame from the early days of British jazz through the big bands and finally later in life as a small group band leader.
As well as being an exceptional musician, he was also a talented composer and tonight’s gig in Screen 2 at the Hawthorne Theatre complex at Campus West pays tribute to some of his compositions, interspersed with narration by his wife and partner for many years, vocalist Barbara Jay.
A spokesman said: “We’re also delighted to have Art Themen, Herts Jazz’s honorary patron, back at the club, who will be playing Tommy’s music on tenor.”
Completing the line-up will be Richard Busiaciewicz on piano, Dave Green on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
Advance tickets cost £3 students, £8 members, £10 concessions and £11 full.
Walk-ups are £5 students, £9 members, £12 concessions and £13 full.
