CHILDREN’S author and illustrator James Mayhew will once again join the de Havilland Philharmonic orchestra in Hatfield for its ever-popular family classical concert.

Today’s (Sunday’s) special anniversary concert celebrates the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten, and features his much-loved Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra – but with a new twist.

Mayhew has written a whole new narration and will also illustrate the sounds conjured by the music live on stage, with the images projected onto the big screen.

The concert, in The Weston Auditorium, will also see the orchestra perform Arnold’s Anniversary Overture and Carnival of Animals, under its dynamic conductor Robin Browning.

Accompanying the concert will be a workshop for children, where they can create an animal mask and join the carnival of animals.

The concert takes place on Sunday at 2pm and 4.30pm in The Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire’s de Havilland Campus, in Hatfield.

Tickets costs £12 per adult and £8 per child.

The workshop takes place before each performance at 1pm and 3.30pm, and costs £3.50 per child.
