Tommy Smith brings Karma to Welwyn Garden City

A MODERN-DAY jazz legend will be performing in Welwyn Garden City next month.
Following on from last month’s successful first Herts Jazz Festival, which put Campus West and WGC on the national and European jazz maps, Herts Jazz will play host to world-famous Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith.
In a major coup for Herts Jazz, Tommy will bring his new band, Karma, to the Hawthorne Studio on Sunday, October 2.
Hailed on arrival by critics as the toughest and most creative group of his career, Tommy Smith’s Karma sees the brilliant saxophonist lead a band of virtuosic musicians – Steve Hamilton (keyboard), Kevin Glasgow (bass) and Alyn Cosker (drums) – on a deeply grooving acid jazz adventure that draws on influences from around the world.
Born in Edinburgh in 1967, Tommy Smith won best soloist and best group titles at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival, aged 14, and recorded his first album at 15.
He was signed by the legendary jazz label, Blue Note, at the age of 21 and has released 25 solo albums.
Tickets for his concert at Campus West cost £13 if booked online at www.welhat.gov.uk/cw (click on link above right), £16 at the door, £10 for members and just £5 for students and under-21s.
