The Rolling Stones return to Hyde Park with Mick Taylor
AN acclaimed blues guitarist from Welwyn Hatfield will join The Rolling Stones on stage tonight (Saturday), as the rock ‘n’ roll legends return to Hyde Park 44 years after their infamous 1969 concert.
Mick Taylor’s first ever gig with the Stones was at the group’s July 1969 concert in Hyde Park, London. That show was held just two days after the death of former band member Brian Jones.
And Taylor will return to the Royal park tonight when the Stones headline the sold-out Barclaycard presents British Summer Time.
Support comes from The Vaccines, The Temper Trap, Gary Clark Jr and King Charles, plus Palma Violets, Tribes, The Boxer Rebellion and more across four stages.
Fresh from their showstopping headline performance at Glastonbury last week, the Rolling Stones are due on the main Great Oak Stage at 8.30pm.
The rock icons play the venue again on Saturday, July 13, with Jake Bugg, Tom Odell, The 1975 and The Horrors also on the festival bill. Again, the Stones’ stage time is around 8.30pm to 10.15pm.
A full-time member of the Stones from 1969 to 1974, Taylor joined Sir Mick Jagger and Co for their historic headline set at Glastonbury last Saturday.
He played Can’t You Hear Me Knocking and later Midnight Rambler, from classic album Let It Bleed.
Taylor also played Love in Vain and (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction alongside Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts on selected dates during the band’s 50 & Counting Tour across USA and Canada.
Taylor, who was born in Welwyn Garden City, went to Onslow School in Hatfield and also played at Breaks Manor in the town during his youth, before joining John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers.
During his stint as first a session musician and later permanent member of the legendary rock group, Taylor played on classic Rolling Stones albums Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St. and Goats Head Soup.
He also appeared with the Stones at last year’s 50th anniversary comeback gigs at the O2 in London.
