Festival-goers heading to Slam Dunk South in Hatfield this weekend are being warned of 'considerable disruption' to train services.

Slam Dunk Festival South takes place in Hatfield Park for the first time on Sunday, May 27, having moved across town from the University of Hertfordshire.

The festival’s new site is directly opposite Hatfield train station.

However, services on the Great Northern line through Hatfield have been affected this week following the introduction of a new timetable.

And, as part of their Railway Upgrade Plan, Network Rail will be carrying out “essential engineering works” this late May bank holiday weekend.

The RailPlan20/20 website states: “A revised weekend service will operate. We urge passengers to continue to check before they travel.

“Thameslink and Great Northern services may be incorrect in journey planners until approx 24 hours before the time of travel.”

A statement posted on Slam Dunk Festival’s Facebook page on Thursday read: “For those attending Slam Dunk South on Sunday 27th May, please be aware we have been informed by Great Northern that the train services operating will have considerable disruptions.

“Trains will be running, but the frequency and number of services operating on all routes through Hatfield Station will be affected.”

The warning also said that the “current published timetables are subject to changes”.

The post continued: “Great Northern will be issuing a new train timetable prior to the event (on http://greatnorthernrail.com and http://nationalrail.co.uk), please ensure you check your travel options on the event day to see the most up to date services.”

Slam Dunk’s Facebook post added: “We understand this is an inconvenience to our customers, but this is unfortunately beyond our control.

“We will aim to provide as much information about the situation as possible when we are provided with a update.”

The new festival venue in Hatfield Park has plenty of parking available, with drivers only able to enter the site off the A414.

Slam Dunk Festival South 2018 will run from 12.30pm to 10.30pm, with the afterparty at The Forum Hertfordshire until 3am.

However, there will be limited trains leaving Hatfield station, so festival-goers are advised to leave the site swiftly after the bands have finished their headline sets.
