UNSIGNED bands are being encouraged to sign up for a music competition with the chance of playing the Alban Arena in St Albans as the top prize.

After a successful first event earlier this year, MusicCity Unsigned returns to St Albans.

Part of the established MusicCity fortnight and run in conjunction with The Horn,, SAASH Arts and the Alban Arena, MCU looks to promote musical talent to a wider audience, encouraging people to vote for who they would like to see perform at the 1,150 capacity Alban Arena.

The inaugural showcase featured an eclectic mix of bands, including Waiting For Katherine, Rae Kelly and Tranquil Fury, each receiving hundreds of votes from the general public.

DJ Hansi supplied the tunes during the set changeovers and it was back to The Horn for the after-show party featuring runners-up Swanvesta Social Club.

Organisers of MCU2 are aiming higher by encouraging more bands to sign up and more people to vote.

The Welwyn Hatfield Times’ sister paper, The Herts Advertiser, will be running a text vote alongside the sign up and internet voting.

The top bands, as voted for by the public, will go through to play MCU2, at the Alban Arena on March 16, 2013.

Groups entering must be 16 plus, and one member of the band must live in the St Albans district. Bands must be available on March 16, 2013.
