The music of a jazz legend will be performed by two sax giants in Welwyn Garden City this evening (Sunday).
Tribute to Monk takes place at Herts Jazz Club tonight, with Tony Kofi and Art Themen teaming up for the Campus West concert.
Big Herts Jazz favourites, Kofi and Themen will lead this tribute night to one of the genre’s finest.
Thelonious Sphere Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer.
He had a unique, improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including ‘Round Midnight’, ‘Blue Monk’, ‘Ruby, My Dear’, ‘In Walked Bud’ and ‘Well, You Needn’t’.
Impressively, Monk is the second most recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington.
Tony Kofi will be on alto/baritone on Sunday night, with Art Themen on tenor/soprano.
Also performing will be Bruce Boardman on piano, Mark Lewandowski on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.
With the addition of Herts Jazz patron Art Themen this time, this group had a great gig on their last visit to the Hawthorne Theatre.
Advance tickets cost £11 full, £10 concessions, £8 club members and £3 students.
Walk-ups are £5 students, £9 members, £12 concessions and £13 full.
