Red Dwarf star to bring some soul to Hertfordshire music festival

MORE acts have been added to the Standon Calling 2013 line-up, including a star of cult TV sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf.
Led by arty five-piece Dutch Uncles, Standon Calling organisers have revealed another generous helping of music for 2013’s event spanning the soul, indie and pop fields.
The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show will make an appearance at the Hertfordshire music festival this summer, as will Josephine.
The new additions for the three-day event taking place in the grounds of Standon Lordship, near Ware, join already confirmed headliners Digitalism, Band of Skulls and De La Soul.
Album chart-toppers Bastille, The Joy Formidable, The D.O.T. and King Charles are also playing the festival over the weekend of Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4.
Mancunian outfit Dutch Uncles should find a warm welcome in the colourful surroundings of Standon.
Three albums into their career, the band firmly wave the flag for leftfield, guitar-driven pop.
Andy Proudfoot, of Dutch Uncles, said: “We’re very excited about being added to this year’s Standon Calling, not least because of the great line-up but also the fact that we’ve just leant it has a swimming pool!
“Our band rider always includes a request to the nearest pool. We’ve packed our Speedos... keep your eyes and ears out for a lot of art-pop and white flesh.”
Also hailing from Manchester, Josephine brings with her West Indian and Jamaican heritage, as smoothly woven into her soul sound.
Next up is a name familiar to the airwaves and indeed TV screens from Red Dwarf and Coronation Street.
The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show lands at Standon for all the crowd’s grooving needs.
Also added to the line-up are Treetop Flyers, Autoheart, Smooth and Turrell Soundsystem, Carnival of Souls, Silvermoths and Silver Darter.
Likened to The Strokes and The Maccabees, Maddox will be taking to the Standon Calling stage as the second of the local acts signed up to appear at the festival.
Tier One weekend tickets costing £99 can be purchased via the Standon Calling website at www.standon-calling.com
