THE opening concert of the new season at Friends Meeting House, in Welwyn Garden City, will take place this weekend.

The Hertfordshire-based Cunningham Piano Quintet will entertain music-lovers at the Handside Lane venue on Sunday.

The quintet’s members are Jennifer Wigram (violin), Ceri Fagg (viola), Hilary Drinkall (cello), Peter Neville (double bass) and Beth Fagg (piano).

They will be performing two major piano quintets – one very famous and one not so well known but still of great interest.

The ever-popular Trout Quintet by Schubert will feature in the programme along with the rarely performed Piano Quintet in C minor by Vaughan Williams.

Pianist Beth, who teaches at St Albans High School for Girls, said that this will probably be its first ever performance in Hertfordshire.

Admission is free and the concert is in aid of The Music Therapy Charity, which works to improve the life opportunities of alienated young people.

The concert at 109 Handside Lane, starts at 6pm.
