Sextet's concert to open new music season in Welwyn Garden City

The new Herts Jazz Club season opens in Welwyn Garden City later this month.
Kicking off the new term will be the Matt Wates Sextet on Sunday, September 17 at the Garden City Cinema complex.
Matt was born in London in 1964 and graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1988.
He has appeared with Bucky Pizzarelli, John Colianni, Humphrey Lyttelton, Don Weller, Bobby Wellins, Dusko Goykovich, Norma Winstone and Peter King.
He has also recorded with Paz, Roadside Picnic, Itchy Fingers, NYJO, the Michael Garrick Big Band, Sax Appeal and Jamie Cullum.
The Matt Wates Sextet features Matt on alto, Steve Fishwick on trumpet, Steve Main on tenor, Leon Greening on piano, Malcolm Creese on bass and Matt Home on drums.
They have recorded nine albums on the Audio-B label and Matt won the Rising Star award in the 1997 BT British Jazz Awards.
The Matt Wates Sextet also won the Best Small Group award in 2001.
A club spokesman said: “Always a pleasure to have this great band at the club.”
Advance tickets for the gig cost £3 students, £11 members, £14 concessions and £15 full.
Walk-ups on the night are £5 students, £13 members, £16 concessions and £17 full.
