The Herts Jazz Club season continues this evening (Sunday) with a visit to Welwyn Garden City of a renowned bass player.

Matt Ridley brings his quartet to Screen 2 of the Welwyn Garden City Cinema/Hawthorne Theatre complex on Sunday night for the first time.

The Matt Ridley Quartet also features Jason Yarde on alto, John Turville on piano and George Hart on drums.

Formed in 2012, the band has received great acclaim.

In the words of Jazz Views last year: “One of Britain’s very finest contemporary quartets... the Matt Ridley Quartet is highly creative and exciting, working in a genre somewhere between free form and advanced lyricism and containing four talented musicians who have developed an almost telepathic musical understanding.”

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets for the gig cost £11 in advance, £10 concessions, £8 members and £3 students.

Walk-ups on the night cost £5 students, £9 members, £12 concessions and £13 full.

• Book online at www.hertsjazz.co.uk/gigs.html or call the Hawthorne Theatre box office on 0300 3039 620.
