THE Heath Quartet will bring the curtain down on the current Chamber Music season at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City this weekend.
Their concert at the Hawthorne Theatre, in WGC, on Saturday, May 18 will include works by Haydn, Berg and Beethoven.
Formed in 2002, the Heath Quartet has emerged as an exciting and original voice on the international chamber music scene.
Awarded a prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Special Ensemble Scholarship in 2011, the quartet has given recitals at major festivals and venues throughout the UK, including Barbican, Wigmore Hall and Queen’s Hall Edinburgh, and overseas.
The programme for Saturday includes Haydn’s String Quartet in G, Op 77 No 1, which was composed at the very end of his career after completing The Creation.
In a similar fashion, Beethoven’s Quartet in C, Op 59 No 3 ‘Rasumovsky’ was also written immediately after another masterpiece, in this case the Eroica. His symphonic style is echoed in the vastness of the movements.
Berg’s two-movement String Quartet, Op 3 will also be performed.
The concert starts at 7.45pm. Seating is unreserved and tickets cost £16, and £5 for students.
