HERTFORDSHIRE’S Rhythms of the World festival has received a donation of more than £1,000 from healthcare provider Simplyhealth.

The company’s Letchworth Community Fund decided to give £1,016.95 to support the Hitchin-based world music festival, which is a registered charity led entirely by volunteers.

ROTW chairman Amy Hopkins said: “We’re grateful to Simplyhealth and all our other donors for their support.

“As a registered charity, it is important that we keep fundraising, because the ticket price isn’t enough to cover the full cost of hosting the festival each year.

“Fundraising also helps us to run our outreach programme, bringing the essence of the festival to those who might not otherwise experience it.”

Jamie Wilson, spokesperson for Simplyhealth, said: “We’re pleased that we can help support Rhythms of the World.

“Each year the charity hosts a fantastic music festival that the whole community gets involved with, it’s nice to support an event which involves so many local people.

“The donation was made through our Letchworth community fund, which exists to support charities and organisations in the local community.”

The Rhythms of the World festival was cancelled this summer due to a lack of a suitable venue.

In its place a weekend of music at Hitchin venues was held in July, along with a family fun day in the market square.

Organisers hope to bring the full festival back in 2014 at a new site.
