A NEW family-orientated folk festival is battling for five gongs in this year’s 10th annual UK Festival Awards.

Folkstock was set up earlier this year by Helen Meissner, and her hard work has been rewarded with nominations in five categories in the industry’s awards.

The inaugural Folkstock took place last month at Aldenham Country Park, in Elstree, and featured more than 70 acts.

The folk and acoustic event has now been shortlisted for the public vote in the Best Small Festival category at the UK Festival Awards 2013 for festivals under 10,000 people.

Folkstock is also among the contenders for the Grass Roots Festival Award gong, Best New Festival and Best Family Festival, as well as being put forward in the Best Toilets section.

All five awards are voted for by the festival-going public, with the deadline for voting closing at the end of the month.

To vote, register at and select you favourites in the respective categories by Friday, November 1.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony being held at The Roundhouse, in London, on December 2.
