Devines concert at Folk at The Maltings
A musical trio from the same family and a New Roots finalist will form next week's line-up at Folk at The Maltings in St Albans.
Folk at The Maltings presents Devines plus support from Jimmy Grayburn on Friday, November 4 at 8pm.
John, Joe and Caz Devine are three members of the same musical family, with roots firmly planted in the Irish musical tradition, playing traditional Irish dance music, mixed with original and contemporary arrangements of Irish songs.
The play an inspired mix of instruments, ranging from eileen pipes, banjo and tin whistle to saxophone.
A Folk at The Maltings spokeswoman said: “They will have the audience both laughing and crying with their fun yet emotive music.”
Devines have been touring since 2011. They made history when they were among the first musicians ever to perform Irish music at a Royal reception in Buckingham Palace.
They have produced three studio albums and an EP and are currently writing a new album of original material, some of which will be performed at The Maltings Arts Theatre.
Opening the concert will be Jimmy Grayburn, a folk singer, songwriter, busker and banjo player hailing from Herefordshire, but now based in London.
He performs and arranges traditional folk songs, as well as his own, with his band The Meddlers.
Over the years he has been involved in many projects.
Back in 2013 he set up the UCLU Folk and World Music Society in London with the aim of getting young people interested and involved in folk music.
Tickets for the gig cost £10, students £8, and under-16s £6, on the door or in advance.
