Pete Long will be appearing at Herts Jazz Club in Welwyn Garden City

A concert featuring the music of jazz great Benny Goodman takes place in Welwyn Garden City this evening (Sunday).

Benny and Beyond is the intriguing title of this weekend’s concert at Herts Jazz Club.

Sax man Pete Long spearheads a five-man assault on the work of Benny Goodman and more at the Hawthorne Theatre complex at Campus West.

Using the classic clarinet and vibes-led quintet format, Peter Long’s ensemble will be revisiting some of the iconic treatments of jazz standards made famous by the great Benny Goodman.

And in other parts of the show, the musicians will be investigating the possibilities of the line-up when applied to other, later idioms.

Alongside Air Mail Special, Avalon, and Flying Home, expect to hear the Benny Goodman treatment applied to, amongst others, Horace Silver, Billy Strayhorn, and even Kool And The Gang.

Joining Pete will be Anthony Kerr on vibes, Robin Aspland on piano, Paul Morgan on bass, and Herts Jazz’s Clark Tracey on drums.

Advance tickets cost £3 students, £8 members, £10 concessions and £11 full.

Walk-ups are £5 students, £9 member, £12 concessions and £13 full.

Book online at or call the box office on 0300 3039 620.

The gig in the Screen 2 auditorium at the Garden City Cinema starts at 7.30pm.
