MASTER bassist Chris Laurence will be performing in Welwyn Garden City this May Bank Holiday weekend.

He brings the group whose 2007 CD New View received glowing accolades from the critics to Herts Jazz Club at Campus West tonight (Sunday) from 8pm.

Chris has managed to ‘cross over’ between jazz and classical throughout his career, enabling him to perform with such diverse artists as John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, John Surman, Andy Sheppard and JJ Johnson, as well as being principal bass with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields until 1995.

He also spends a lot of time in studios recording music for TV, film and albums, including the soundtracks for Leaving Las Vegas with Sting and The Man Who Cried with the Kronos Quartet.

At Campus West, he will be joined by Frank Ricotti on vibes, John Paricelli on guitar and Martin France on drums.

Tickets cost £11 advance. The gig costs £13 at the door, £8 for members and just £5 for students and under-21s. Book online at www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk
