WELWYN Garden Concert Club’s fourth event of the season promises another treat for classical music lovers.

The famous Doric String Quartet will be performing at Campus West, in Welwyn Garden City, on Saturday night.

Regarded as one of the outstanding quartets of its generation, the four musicians have won a series of awards.

Winners of the 2008 Osaka Festival, the quartet’s highlights last year include a critically acclaimed performance of Haydn at Wigmore Hall, which was broadcast by BBC Radio 3, and recitals in Paris, Milan, Isle of Man and Frankfurt.

In addition, the quartet also toured throughout Japan and returned to Israel and Asia.

During the 2009-10 season, the Doric Quartet appeared at Wigmore Hall four times as a foursome and in recitals with Philip Langridge and Andrew Kennedy.

Future engagements include recitals in Berlin, Germany, and concerts in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.

The programme for Campus West includes Haydn’s String Quartet in A Major, Op 20 No 6, the String Quartet No 5 in E flat major, Op 44 No 3 by Mendelssohn and Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite.

The concert starts at 7.45pm.

Tickets cost £13 for adults and £2 for students and can be obtained from the box office on 01707 357117 or at the door.
