A respected bass player will be performing live at a weekly jazz club held in Welwyn Garden City.

Larry Bartley & Just Us will play Herts Jazz Club tonight (Sunday) from 7.30pm.

Having previously appeared at the Campus West-based club with Jean Toussaint, Larry now also leads his own Ornette Coleman-influenced quartet.

The band, with Bartley on bass, Tony Kofi and Ed Jones on saxes and Rod Youngs on drums, will be playing numbers from their recently released CD Beauty in the Hideous.

Of Bartley, London Jazz News said: “Like any great bassist, Larry Bartley has lent his weight to many ensembles, but he seems to have a special affinity for classy saxophone players – including gigs or recordings with Denys Baptiste, Chris Biscoe, Courtney Pine and Ingrid Laubrock.”

The concert will take place from 7.30pm in Herts Jazz’s new home at the Campus West complex.

Following the addition of two new cinema screens, Herts Jazz shows are now being held in the new Garden City Cinema Screen 2 auditorium.

Advance tickets for the concert cost £11 full, £10 concessions and £8 members.

Walk-ups cost £9 members, £12 concessions and £13 full.

The club is particularly keen to bring jazz to a wider audience and tickets are just £3 for students and under-21s in advance and £5 on the night.
