Bonnets and swords saga Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is currently being shot in Old Hatfield around the Fore Street and Hatfield House area.

Adapted from Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel, Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England is given a big screen Hollywood horror makeover with a The Walking Dead-like zombie twist.

For the sword-wielding Bennet sisters are faced with an army of the undead.

From the author behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the movie features an all-star cast including former Doctor Who Matt Smith and Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance. Matt Smith, who will also appear in the latest reboot of the Terminator franchise, plays Mr Collins.

Downton Abbey and Wrath of the Titans star Lily James plays heroine Elizabeth Bennet, after Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’s Natalie Portman was reportedly set for the role but had to drop out.

Black Swan Oscar winner Portman is still one of the film’s directors, according to movie database website IMDb.

The other zombie-slashing Bennet sisters are Bella Heathcote as Jane, Ellie Bamber as Lydia, Millie Brady as Mary and Suki Waterhouse as Kitty.

Sam Riley, who appeared in Maleficent alongside Brad Pitt’s wife Angelina Jolie, takes on the Mr Darcy role made famous by Oscar winner Colin Firth in the 1995 TV series of Pride and Prejudice, scenes of which, coincidentally, were also filmed in Welwyn Hatfield at Brocket Hall, Lemsford.

Jack Huston, who appeared in American Hustle, is Mr Wickham, and Mr Bingley is played by Douglas Booth, who starred alongside Russell Crowe in Noah.

Directed by Burr Steers, the PPZ cast also includes Lena Headey, who is Cersei Lannister in brutal fantasy series Game of Thrones and appeared in blood-thirsty Spartans movie 300.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is due for release next year.
