The 2017 Game Fair will open with a bang in Hatfield this week with a 59-gun salute.
The festival of the Great British countryside will take place in the grounds of Hatfield House for the first time from Friday, July 28 to Sunday, July 30.
Organisers, local dignitaries and industry representatives will open The Game Fair on Friday with a spectacular 59-gun salute at 8.30am.
To mark the event’s 59th anniversary, the display will take place on Gunmakers’ Row using a selection of Browning shotguns firing blank cartridges under the supervision of British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) instructors.
The booming shots will reverberate throughout the showground to mark the start of the three-day event.
James Gower, managing director of The Game Fair, explained that a gun salute has never been done before at the event.
“As the new custodians of The Game Fair, we are determined to bring fresh ideas and innovation to the event,” he said.
“The Game Fair is the biggest event in the countryside calendar so it seems fitting to open the festivities with such a grand gesture.”
As the world’s largest outdoor fieldsports-themed show, The Game Fair will attract around 120,000 visitors to the Hertfordshire stately home over the weekend.
