Ticket holders for the first ever Herts Big Weekend will have even more reason to smile this week, with some wild prizes up for grabs for the best Big Weekend ‘selfie’.
Tourist attractions across the county are getting ready to welcome hundreds of Hertfordshire residents on Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 as part of the county-wide celebrations for Herts Big Weekend.
Organised by Hertfordshire’s new tourism service Visit Herts, the event aims to boost tourism and support leisure businesses by giving residents the chance to discover – or rediscover – a huge range of attractions and activities across the county for free for one ‘big weekend’.
Nearly 50 tourism businesses have donated nearly 2,000 tickets and experiences to Herts Big Weekend, and there were over 13,000 applications for the free tickets in the online ballot.
Warner Bros Studio Tour proved to be the most popular offer and entry to Paradise Wildlife Park was a close second.
Family tickets to Knebworth House and Gardens, and afternoon teas at St Michael’s Manor Hotel and Brocket Hall completed the top five, and their combined applications drew in almost 5,000 bids.
Other tickets included entry to heritage sites, gardens, parks, museums, sports and leisure facilities, and food and drink experiences.
Attractions also donated over 200 tickets to The Family Holiday Association, a national charity which gives families in need the chance to enjoy a special day out.
All the tickets have been allocated and most will be used this weekend.
To make sure the event is as memorable as possible for all, ticket holders are being encouraged to share photos of their adventures on social media for the chance to win an amazing animal encounter and a white water adventure with the Herts Big Weekend Selfie Competition.
Any ticket holder who posts a selfie of themselves on Twitter, using #HertsBigWeekend and tagging @VisitHertsUK will be entered into a prize draw to win a White Water Rafting Adventure for two at Lee Valley and an Afternoon Tiger Tea for two at Paradise Wildlife Park.
