Tasty treats, Christmas gifts and festive fayre will be on offer at two special events taking place in the county town next month.
The annual Hertford Christmas Gala will take place on Friday, November 25 from 3.30pm to 8pm, followed the next day by the Think Christmas Think Hertford festivities.
Both Christmas events are organised by Hertford Town Council, and sponsored by Specsavers Hertford and Go Move.
The fun-filled festivities take place in Hertford town centre, and residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the county town and get into the Christmas spirit.
Councillor Jane Sartin, chairman of Hertford Town Council’s development & leisure committee, said: “These two events mark the start of the Christmas season in Hertford, and have become an important part of Hertford Town Council’s programme in the town centre.
“We are particularly lucky to have a wealth of independent shops in Hertford, making it easier to find something a bit different when hunting for Christmas presents.
“The wide range of restaurants, pubs and bars also make the town the ideal place to celebrate Christmas and New Year.”
During the Christmas Gala visitors will be able to see Santa in his grotto, and meet his reindeer, who will be in Parliament Square, along with a friendly owl.
There will be street entertainers, including Olaf from Frozen, glow jugglers and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Christmas markets and food stalls will be located around the town centre, and children will be able to dress up and perform a living nativity scene provided by Hertford Baptist Church.
An entertainment stage will be in Salisbury Square, where performances will take place from Simon Balle Big Band and Top Hat Stage School, along with fire juggling, singers and the countdown to the Christmas tree light switch on.
At 6.20pm, Hertford’s mayor, Councillor Linda Radford, will be presenting prizes to the winners of the Christmas Winning Windows competition for town centre businesses.
The mayor and Santa will then switch the Christmas tree lights on at 6.30pm.
Many of the town’s retailers will offer late-night shopping, including in-store discounts and promotions.
There will be free mulled mine, Christmas fizz, mince pies and treats at Hertford Interiors, and discounts and hot sausage rolls at Rigsby’s Guest House Art Gallery.
The festivities continue on Saturday, November 26 with Think Christmas Think Hertford from 10am to 4pm in the town centre.
Children will be able to get a free modelled balloon, enjoy circus skills and giant bubbles.
