Award-winning local musical theatre company Green Room Productions returns to the Wyllyotts Theatre next week with the regional premiere of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels – a musical comedy set on the glamorous French Riviera.

This adaptation of the hit comedy film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin is a musical tale of decadence and deception in the south of France, where a debonair English conman, masquerading as a disinherited prince, seduces unattached ladies and persuades them to part with their cash.

He has the local police chief in his pocket and all is going well until a rival con artist arrives in town, threatening his lucrative pitch.

As the two try to outwit each other, they soon discover that this French town isn’t big enough for the both of them.

Green Room chairman Alastair Woodgate said: “The company is hugely excited to be presenting the regional amateur premiere of this show that gained so much praise in London’s West End.

“It may be a modern musical but it also takes us back to the all but lost era of traditional musical comedy.

“The battle of wits between the two conmen and the shenanigans going on around them will keep you laughing and guessing right to the very end.”

Described as “a savvy and sunny show to savour”, the recent West End production saw Robert Lindsay and Rufus Hound in the lead roles.

With music and lyrics by David Yazbek, the show runs at the Wyllyotts Theatre, off Darkes Lane, from Tuesday, November 8 to Saturday, November 12, with evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Adult tickets cost from £17 to £19, with group concessions available.

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.
