A COMMUNITY choir could be right up your street, offering free rehearsals to those with a passion for singing.

Stevenage-based Just Sing! will be going into the community in a bid to find new members, with the choir’s first open night taking place tomorrow (Thursday).

The free rehearsal runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Hyde Out Centre at The Hyde, Stevenage, and is open to all ages, although children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Just Sing! was started three years ago by Joan Lomas, one of the choir’s directors, who loved the idea of encouraging people to sing in the workplace after watching BBC TV programme The Choir.

“Lots of people think they can’t sing but it’s just not true,” she said.

“Anyone can hum a tune and it’s a wonderful experience singing with other people. There are even proven health benefits.”

Penny Manser conducts the choir, with members finding themselves singing anything from The Beatles to Zappa, with different styles ranging from classical to theatre show favourites. Just Sing! rehearses on the first and third Thursday of every month at Stevenage Community Arts Centre in London Road.
