Details of this year’s Hatfield Christmas lights switch-on event have been confirmed.
The town centre’s illuminations will be switched on at a Beauty and the Beast themed extravaganza being held on Saturday, November 18.
The festive fun will begin in White Lion Square at 2pm, and a line-up of singing and dancing talent will entertain people throughout the afternoon.
Santa will be making an appearance, meeting and greeting visitors with his real life reindeer.
And there will also be an opportunity to have your photos taken with Beauty and Dame Dolly from CW Entertainment’s Beauty and the Beast pantomime, which can be seen at the Hawthorne Theatre in Welwyn Garden City in December.
Dame Dolly is played by Mike Totton, WGC’s favourite pantomime Dame.
Bringing some Latin and Cuban-inspired rhythms to the town, Hertfordshire band Swanvesta Social Club will be performing on stage at 5pm, building up to the big lights switch-on at 5.15pm.
The St Albans-based ensemble will then play until 5.30pm, to round off the day’s entertainment.
Swanvesta Social Club’s music mingles traditional Latin numbers, some of their original tracks and interpretations of pop songs in Cuban styles.
There will also be Christmas carols in White Lion Square on Wednesday, December 20.
So sing along to your favourite Christmas songs from noon to 1pm.
The event includes mince pies, hot drinks, and free hymn sheets.
The Welwyn Garden City Christmas lights switch-on event will take place on Thursday, November 16.
Councillor Bernard Sarson, Welwyn Hatfield Council’s executive member for business, partnerships and public health, said: “For many people, the Christmas light switch-on events mark the start of the festive season, and what better way to begin one of the best times of the year than with your friends and family watching your towns light up.”
