One of Hertfordshire’s largest explosions of pyrotechnics in 2014 will be seen above Verulamium Park in St Albans for Bonfire Night.

Organised by the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans in aid of local charities, the Verulamium Fireworks Spectacular 2014 will take place four days before Guy Fawkes Night on Saturday, November 1.

Started about 25 years ago in order to reduce firework accidents at home, this amazing annual public display has since raised more than £600,000.

Gates to the St Albans park open at 6pm and the fireworks will start around 7.30pm, with more than 15,000 people expected to attend, depending on the weather.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for children under-16 and senior citizens.

A family ticket for two adults and two children under-16 costs £10.

Tickets are available from the Cathedral box office, located in the gift shop, between 10am and 4.45pm Monday to Saturday, and 1pm to 4.45pm on Sundays, or telephone 01727 890290.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office or booked online and collected from the box office up until 4pm on Saturday, November 1.

You can also pay on the gate.

* There will be a Halloween and Bonfire Extravaganza at Sopwell House on Friday, October 31.

This special event will include a bonfire and Guy Fawkes, face painting, a Halloween-themed fancy dress competition, Halloween-themed games and storytelling and, weather permitting, a fantastic firework display.

The event starts at 6.30pm, and tickets are £18.90 for adults, which includes a hog roast served with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling with a hot beverage.

Tickets for children up to 12 years are £9.50, which includes a mini burger or hot dog and chips with hot chocolate.

These prices are for online bookings only.

For all bookings received, a £2 donation will be made to Grove House, part of Rennie Grove Hospice Care.
