A SUCCESSFUL stage school is holding free auditions in Hatfield later this month for annual scholarships worth more than £900.

Top Hat will be offering performers aged six to 17 years olds the chance of winning a year at the weekly stage school.

Potters Bar youngster Geoff Berrisford, one of Top Hat’s scholarship winners last year, has since gone on to star in an off West End play and a recent Tesco commercial.

The auditions will take place on Sunday, November 25 at the University of Hertfordshire’s Forum and are free to attend.

Top Hat principal Warren Bacci said: “The scholarship scheme was set up to allow talented children in Hertfordshire to attend a stage school such as ours, who otherwise financially wouldn’t be able to.

“There are so many enthusiastic youngsters out there who would love to have the training that we provide and I am looking forward to meeting the new applicants this year.

“We encourage all children to come to the auditions as it is free, fun and informal and will give a taster to what Top Hat has to offer.”

Applicants must register online for a place at www.tophatstageschool.co.uk

There are 15 scholarship places up for grabs in total and they are worth more than £900 each. The places are supported by Hertfordshire County Council, Youth Connexions and local authorities in Hertfordshire.

Prize winners will be able to attend one of Top Hat’s weekly stage schools each weekend from January to December 2013, where they learn dance, drama and singing.

Top Hat currently has schools in Potters Bar, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, St Albans and Hertford.

The scheme was run last year and hundreds of children attended the free workshop audition.

Since then, Potters Bar youngster Geoff Berrisford has also gained a place on their professional acting agency and was chosen to star in a recent Tesco commercial, as well as an off West End musical called A Dream Across the Ocean.

Geoff’s mum, Amie, said of the scheme: “I am so proud of Geoff. Since he has joined Top Hat in January, he has gained so much confidence.

“We want to thank Warren Bacci and all his team at Top Hat for giving Geoff this opportunity by winning the scholarship place.”

Applicants should register online at www.tophatstageschool.co.uk to reserve a place at the auditions.
