SIR- Regarding the Uni 24 hour drinking licence (WHT, December 31)...

I believe we should be encouraging students to study more and not teaching them how to get drunk when they first start Uni in Freshers' Week.

Freshers' Week is bad news for everybody. I'm sure if it went to a vote the local residents would have voted against this nightclub ever being built. The £38m should have been spent on education and the regeneration of Hatfield town centre.

We already have a major problem with youngsters drinking too much alcohol. Spending your student loan in your nightclub is not good news! I also thought WHT had reported that Hatfield was going to be a no drinking zone.

Mr M J Davin, via email.

l Drinking in public open spaces in part of the Town Centre has been banned since March 31 last year
