SIR - We hear so much in the press these days about the lack of care given to the elderly in hospitals so I would just like to say how well my 84-year-old mother, Mrs Margaret Hunt, was treated on admission to A & E at the QE2 Hospital very recently.

She was treated with much kindness, care and compassion - the lovely young male doctor who was assigned to her explained everything in great detail at each stage to us; the sister and her team were marvellous and, when my mother was transferred to the medical assessment unit, this faultless care continued.

My daughters and I were quite overwhelmed.

Thank you so much, QE2.
