Sir - How terrible to hear that county council employees must make up lost hours or take holiday due to absence in the recent bad weather.

While the majority of us are just grateful to have jobs to go to in these uncertain times, it seems these people wish to lie cosily in bed and receive a full days pay for the privilege.

At my place of work we were informed prior to the snowfall that anyone who didn't arrive for work would be marked absent with no option to use a holiday, resulting in loss of pay. Harsh? Perhaps. Needless to say the entire shift turned up, on time day after day. Amazing what can be achieved when one's mind is properly focused!
