SIR - I recently came across a lavishly illustrated eight-page leaflet published and distributed by Welwyn Hatfield Council.

It is updated, but refers to five promises for the next five years.

It appears to relate to the five years ending in 2010.

There is very little objectivity and is mainly subjective; "...we will endeavour to design out crime in new developments" and "...we will use council powers proactively to provide an effective licensing regime".

The purpose of this letter is to utilise your good offices to ascertain if any review will be published to show the progress of these 'promises' as the period in question is at the halfway mark.

I am particularly interested in the promise; "...to support the allocation of a dedicated regular police officer for every district ward".

Perhaps some claims will need the support of the Government, but surely no-one would make promises that depend on the support of an unrelated third party.
