Sir - It is my understanding that private companies exist to make a profit. Given that is the done thing, all companies involved with the privatisation of our council will make a profit out of our council tax payments.

If that is the case less council tax monies will be spent on services because private companies exist to make a profit.

With such a profit being made from our council tax, it looks as if we could make more savings if the services were not privatised. Perhaps the leader of the council can tell us all how much of our council tax will actually be spent on services and how much will end up in the personal bank accounts of the company directors involved?

Continuing with the council tax, will it still be called council tax? Will my council tax cheques be made payable to Welwyn and Hatfield Council or a private profit making company? Can shares be bought in the private companies involved so I can eventually redeem some monies from this council tax money-making machine?

As the leader of the council is making many savings will he pass this on the council taxpayers, or, will the savings be used to privatise more services and threaten the very existence of the councils and make them extinct?

Edward John Selby, Wood Common, Hatfield.
